You’ll be actively involved in assessment, goal-setting, and reviewing progress, with your insight valued throughout.

Signposting and Liaison

We connect you with relevant services (e.g. SEND support, respite care, local charities) and collaborate with schools and social care where needed.

How We Support Families and Carers:

Support in Crisis

If your child is in crisis, we help you access the right urgent care and safety planning level.

Working Together to Support Young People’s Mental Health

At Mind-U, we recognise that mental health challenges affect the whole family, not just the young person. We offer dedicated support, guidance, and involvement opportunities for parents, carers, and families throughout the care journey.

Adoption and Foster Care is a rewarding journey that transforms the lives of many children and adults who have experienced early adversity. However, this can also be incredibly challenging when we consider the complexities of the relationships and experiences that these children have experienced. Developing this understanding to know how to move forward in a healthy and restoring way can also be challenging.

How We Support Families and Carers:

Support in Crisis

If your child is in crisis, we help you access the right urgent care and safety planning level.

Consultation/Observation

We will sit with you and your family to discuss the issues. This is not just for families and carers. We also work with schools, social workers and local authorities to support children in care, foster care and adoption.

The consultation includes a file review by our clinicians and conversations with the adults around the child. Using psychological theory and interviews, the clinicians will have a formulation session with you to look at ways of understanding the child and family presentation.

Interventions

Bespoke Intervention planning suited to the child and the family

Adoption and Foster care Support

All our staff are highly experienced in supporting foster carers, adoptive parents and families with children in care and with those who have been adopted or in long-term placements.

We often provide consultation assessing and treating children with attachment difficulties and early traumatic histories.

Therapeutic Parenting

We use attachment-based models and theories to promote therapeutic parenting. Our primary model is Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).

Please find more information about DDP here.

These sessions are a 12-week programme for parents to join where they will be supported to use strategies but also to look at their relationship experiences in more depth.

We believe families are a vital part of recovery  and we’re here to support you, too.

Consultation and Training

We also provide support through consultation and training to residential care companies and local authorities. We can provide in-house training on topics such as;

Self-harm management
(Causes and Impact)

Boundaries

Harmful Sexualised Behaviour

Speech and Language Therapy

Play Therapy

Neurodiversity:
Autism and ADHD
