We have ‘U’ at the centre of our care

We want to support you in your recovery journey and empower you to become your therapist.

Welcome to Mind-U Therapy Services

We are a friendly team of therapists who work with children and families. As an independent provider of psychological therapies, we pride ourselves on delivering evidence-based, National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE)- guided psychological support.

All our therapists are highly experienced and specialised in working with children, young people and their families. We support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties and struggling to cope with life’s challenges.

Clinical Psychology

Our Clinical Psychologists work with children, young people, and their families to assess and treat a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and mental health difficulties. Using evidence-based approaches, we aim to understand young people's unique experiences and help them build skills to manage challenges and thrive.

  • We support children and adolescents experiencing:

    • Anxiety, low mood, and self-esteem issues

    • Trauma or adverse childhood experiences

    • Neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. ADHD, autism)

    • Self-harm, eating difficulties, or obsessive thoughts

    • Behavioural and relational difficulties at home or school

    Our work includes:

    • In-depth psychological assessments

    • Individual and family therapy

    • Behavioural and cognitive interventions

    • Collaboration with schools, social care, and other professionals

Our approach is child-centred, trauma-informed, and always grounded in the latest psychological research. We partner with families to promote long-term emotional resilience and mental well-being.

We help young people feel seen, heard, and understood and support them in finding their way forward.

Art Therapy

Creative Expression for Emotional Healing

Art Therapy offers a safe and supportive space for children and young people to explore thoughts and feelings through creative processes. It is invaluable for those struggling to express themselves through words alone.

  • Led by a qualified Art Therapist, sessions involve drawing, painting, sculpting, or other art forms to help young people make sense of their inner world. The focus is not on artistic skill, but on using creativity to process emotions, build confidence, and support mental wellbeing.

Art Therapy can support young people experiencing:

    • Anxiety, low mood, or emotional overwhelm

    • Bereavement, loss, or trauma

    • Difficulties with identity or self-esteem

    • Communication challenges, including those linked to autism or selective mutism

    • Experiences of abuse or neglect

Art Therapy is often used alongside other psychological support as part of a wider therapeutic plan. It empowers young people to explore, heal, and grow at their own pace and in their way. Sometimes, we can draw the things we can’t say.

Play Therapy

Helping Children Heal Through Play

Play Therapy provides a child-friendly, developmentally appropriate way for children to express emotions, explore experiences, and work through difficulties. It is especially effective for younger children who may not have the words to explain their feelings.

  • In a safe and supportive environment, a trained Play Therapist uses toys, games, stories, and creative materials to help the child make sense of their world. Play becomes the language through which healing and growth can happen.

The sessions are tailored to the child's needs and may be delivered alongside other therapeutic approaches within Mind-U.

Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) work with children and young people whose mental health is affected by communication difficulties. These challenges can impact relationships, learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing, often contributing to feelings of frustration, isolation, or low self-esteem.

  • Our SLTs assess and support areas such as:

    • Understanding and using language

    • Expressing thoughts, feelings, and needs

    • Social communication (e.g. turn-taking, making friends, interpreting non-verbal cues)

    • Speech clarity and fluency

    • Communication difficulties linked to neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. autism, ADHD)

Therapy is personalised and may involve individual sessions, group work, or joint sessions with family or other professionals. SLTs also work closely with schools and other services to help create supportive communication environments.

Improving young people’s communication ability helps strengthen their confidence, relationships, and overall mental health. Our SALT team works effectively alongside all our mental health professionals.

Our Multi-Disciplinary Team includes:

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists (OTs)  support children and young people whose mental health or developmental needs affect their ability to manage everyday activities. This can include difficulties with self-care, school tasks, emotional regulation, or social participation.

  • Our OT focuses on improving functional skills and promoting independence across home, school, and community settings. Through assessment and intervention, we help young people build the tools they need to cope, connect, and succeed.

    We support areas such as:

    • Emotional regulation and sensory processing

    • Sleep, routines, and self-care skills

    • Motor coordination and handwriting

    • Executive functioning (e.g. attention, planning, organisation)

    • Independence and daily living skills

Occupational Therapy is tailored to each child’s needs and may include direct sessions, environmental adaptations, and collaboration with families, schools, and other professionals.

We help young people feel more capable, confident, and in control of their world.

Psychiatry

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions in children and young people. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that each young person receives holistic, tailored care.

  • At Mind-U, we do not have psychiatrists based in-house. However, we can refer you to our designated psychiatrist should you need a further assessment. They can contribute to;

    • Comprehensive mental health assessments

    • Diagnosis of complex or severe conditions (e.g. depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, ADHD)

    • Medication management, where appropriate

    • Risk assessment and safety planning

    • Liaison with GPs, schools, social care, and other professionals

Psychiatric input is often part of a wider care plan, and always considers the whole child, their strengths, relationships, history, and goals. Medication, when prescribed, is used carefully and in conjunction with psychological and therapeutic support. We can refer you further for access to psychiatry services.

Our Staff

Our staff offer a non-judgemental, therapeutic approach whilst actively listening to your issues to help you make sense of your experiences and their impact on your behaviour and feelings.

Our approach

We use different therapeutic approaches that accommodate your readiness for therapy and individual coping methods. For example, some people prefer art to discuss their feelings, and our art therapist is on hand.

Others may prefer to use a talking approach to discussing earlier experiences and their impact on adolescence and emerging adulthood.
